David has been Chairman of the TRG since April 2014 and a member of the TRG for the last 8 years, having held previous board positions including that of Treasurer back in 2009.
He has held various positions within the voluntary party over the last 20 years. He has been the Constituency Chairman in Knowsley & Sefton, Constituency Chairman in Birmingham Edgbaston between 2006 and 2009, Finance Officer and then Chairman of the Birmingham Conservative Party in 08/09.
His track record demonstrates an ability to grow membership and develop associations. His time in Birmingham saw party membership grow by 30% over 4 years and he re-established the professional and student networks in the city. He was the first Chairman since 1994 to return all 12 councillors in the Edgbaston Constituency for the Conservatives. He believes that strong campaigns and electoral success come off the back of strong local associations with active memberships.
For the last 18 months as TRG Chairman, his focus has been to build up and recruit new members into the management team, strengthen the background administrative and membership systems, create an entirely new website and brand image for the TRG (which launched in Feb 16) and of course the most important task was the campaigning in the general election of 2015 and the work of the TRG helping return a dozen TRG Candidates and Patrons as MP’s.
David is clear that the focus of the next 18 months is clearly on Policy, so expect an increase in publications, policy forums, one nation day conferences and the drive of the TRG membership to put One Nation, progressive and liberal Conservative policy at the forefront of its activities.
As with all TRG Board members, David is a volunteer and he has a full time profession as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at McMillan Williams Solicitors, the UK’s largest consumer high street law firm with over 20 branches throughout London and the South East and South West of England.
David’s professional background has been in Legal IT for the last 10 years, he was Head of IT Service Delivery and then IT Strategy at Eversheds LLP for 3 years. In 2009 he co-founded a Cloud based IT company providing IT to law firms as COO and then CEO. Previous to that he was in newspaper and digital media publishing and had 7 years working for Trinity Mirror newspapers fulfilling many roles but ended his time there as Group IT Services Manager.
